Fibromyalgia
Kelly Hemingway I was born in Michigan and had a lifelong desire to be a nurse. I achieved my goal after a rough start in life and worked my way from welfare up through nursing school to ultimately achieve my Master's degree in Nursing. Critical care nursing and being a nursing educator at a community college were my absolute favorite aspects of my career. I have had the pleasure of speaking at multiple state nursing conferences for educators. Additionally, I spoke at an LPN state nursing convention regarding Fibromyalgia and was able to put a face with this unfamiliar and devastating illness. Unfortunately, in 2010, my nursing career was stolen from me after having a nearly fatal allergic reaction to a medication. I was left with multiple chronic health conditions after this illness and forced to give up my career and go on disability. I am turning my mess into my message and my test into my testimony because I want everyone to know you do not have to "Learn to live with this" illness. There IS HOPE! working my way from welfare to a Master's Degree in Nursing with a Specialization in Education because my passion in life has always been to become a nurse. After finally landing my dream job of a nursing instructor, I thought my path was set. Unfortunately, my health hit a brick wall in 2010 and as a result I lost my career dream job. As you can imagine, I was devastated. I am now disabled due to fibromyalgia and multiple other chronic illnesses. This book is written through the eyes of both a nurse and patient which give me unique insight and perspective concerning ways to help others. I want to turn my mess into my message and my test of faith into a testimony. I want my illness to serve a greater purpose, and not go in vain.
