Spirit Lake

Father Louis Hennepin and the La Salle expedition to the Upper Mississippi have been recorded in our history books, but in Spirit Lake, we see the expedition from the view of those who lived it: the intrepid French-Canadian voyageurs. Risking their lives to explore the Upper Mississippi, these men sought fame and glory, but found treasures much greater—a newfound respect for the land and its native people, and even love. Shannon Manary of Cuyuna, MN Shannon Manary has lived in Minnesota all his life. He was born in Princeton but currently resides near Crosby with his dog Rocky. He spent decades in the logistics industry and started his own company, named Up North Art, to pursue nature photography, artwork, and music. He also took up writing. His first book, Spirit Lake, reflects his interest in history. However, he plans to expand his writing to other genres as well.
