More Tales From The Island Nurse
Mary J. Macleod travelled from the South of England to the Hebrides in search of escape from the life of a hectic Norwich health visitor and to find an idyllic setting in which to raise her young family.
The Island Nurse returns with a second volume, exploring memories of life on the Hebridean island of ‘Papavray’. Filled with stories of the troubles, joys, drama and comedies endured by Macleod’s patients and family alike, this makes a charming and humorous account of community life on a small island in a bygone era.
Based on the real experiences of Macleod as a district nurse in the Hebrides, the stories are told in a personal and engaging manner of the tales, superstitions and lives of the crofter families on ‘Papavray’.
Mary MacLeod MARY J. MACLEOD was born in Somerset, educated in Bath and qualified as a state registered nurse in Bristol.
